Preparation Guidelines

Supplies You Will Need | Preparing Clothing Items | Preparing Toys
Preparing Books/DVDs| Preparing Shoes | Preparing Equipment

Our event will be set-up similar to a retail store. Presentation is a MUST! Prepare your items so they look nice. Think: "Would I buy this for my child?"

Wash all clothing.  Ironed items sell faster and for more money!!!
Wipe down all equipment and toys.
Inspect all items for stains, rips, tears or damage.
Make sure all parts are included and in working order.
Include the manuals or instructions if you have them.
Electronic items must be working. Batteries must be included!

Price your items TO SELL.  If you want it to go, price LOW.  The pricing rule of thumb is 40-50% off the retail price for baby equipment, 25-40% off for clothing and 10-25% off for toys and books. Items that are brand new and still have tags can be priced slightly higher. Price it fair.  Think about how much you would pay for it NOW. Don't think about how much you paid for it originally. Choose to discount the item 50% off on Sunday if you really want the item to go....every item sold is more money in your pocket!

Supplies You Will Need:

1. Wire Hangers: Usually available from any local dry cleaner for free or a small price. Also check Ebay, Craigslist or Freecycle.

2. Cardstock Paper: 60-67# weight or greater is acceptable in white or off-white.  Regular white copy paper will NOT be accepted. 6 Tags printed per page.

3. Safety pins: Use to secure clothing to hangers and to attach price tags. You can also use a tagging gun to secure tags. Straight pins are not acceptable.

4. Clear Packing Tape: Use for toys, books, etc.

5. Zip top bags: Use for shoes and small parts.

*Hangers and pins will not be returned to you.*

Preparing Items:

Presentation! Presentation! Presentation!

1. Wash all clothing items. We highly recommend ironing all clothes.  Ironed clothing looks better and sells better!

2. Hang items on a hanger with the hook facing left like a question mark.

3. Pin pants, skirts and shorts on both sides to the top (angled) portion of the hanger so they hang straight and do not slide side to side. Do not fold over the hanger because they will fall to the floor.

4. Facing the garment, pin price tag to the upper right-hand corner. If the garment is made of a fabric that could be ruined by this, pin to the inside tag facing forward. If using a pricing gun, facing the garment place tag to the right armpit or waist or original garment tag.

Small, low-priced items like onesies, bibs & socks are to be priced and packaged together using Ziploc bags. Tape the price tag to the outside of the bag. Tape at least two sides of the tag but do not cover the barcode.

NOTE: The minimum price on clothing is $1.00. Combining items together on one hanger to make a complete outfit can help presentation if it was originally sold as a set. Packaging onesies together or bunch of socks in ziploc bags also helps sell. Attach coordinating accessories to an item or outfit (coordinating pair of socks or hat).

Preparing Toys
Clean all toys with Clorox, wet wipes or Magic Eraser.
Check and/or replace batteries.
Include any small parts in a Ziploc bag and attach with zipties or tape to the item.
Attach tag with clear packing tape. Tape at least two sides of the tag but do not cover the barcode.
Include instruction manuals when possible. Instruction manuals can often be downloaded from the company's website.

Preparing Books/DVDs:
Attach tag with clear packing tape to the BACK of book or DVD case. Tape at least two sides of the tag but do not cover the barcode.
If you want to sell a set of books together for one price (set of Magic Tree House books), place in a Ziploc bag or use a large rubber band to secure together. We have found that books typically sell better when sold individually unless they were originally sold as a set.

Preparing Shoes:
Shoes should be priced low (between $2-$4) unless they are brand-new.
Clean shoes and tie laces of left and right shoe together
Place shoes in Ziploc bag
Attach tag with clear packaging tape to the back of the bag. Tape at least two sides of the tag but make do not cover the barcode.

Preparing Equipment:
Do comparative research on Ebay and Craigslist. Expensive items (strollers, swings, pack & plays, etc.) typically sell 40%-50% off retail pricing.
Clean equipment with Clorox, wet wipe and/or Magic Eraser.
Attach tag with clear packing tape to item if there is nowhere to utilize a safety pin. Tape at least two sides of the tag but do not cover the barcode.

NOTE: At the drop-off, you will be required to setup your equipment (this includes changing tables, pack and play, swings, etc). We do not have staff to set up these large items. Please bring your own tools to do so if required.

Please ensure that all of your items meet our guidelines. All items for sale should be top quality and safe.
